Moving Arts Dance presents “Beauty from Darkness” a salon performance at the new Moving Arts Dance Theater in Concord. Directed by Anandha Ray, Moving Arts Dance is known for presenting visually stunning pieces that touch the heart and enliven the spirit. “Beauty from Darkness” includes live music in a collaboration with Judgement Day, classically trained musicians who play a style of original music they call “string metal”. A subcultural phenomena of the soft metal genre, string metal includes instrumental creations that range from emotionally rich to thick, massive sounds of classical instruments including evocative electric cello, electric violin and drums.
“Beauty from Darkness” is a collection of dances that takes the audience on a journey from personal loss to the pure joy of movement, with choreography by Ray, Michael Lowe and Paris Wages. The show includes three world premieres by Ray: “For Your Own Good” a remake of the acclaimed Moving Arts II work of the same name set to the music of Judgement Day, an untitled quartet set to the music of Judgement Day and a solo section of the popular “Presence of Absence” titled “That Which Was”. Making its Bay Area premiere is Lowe’s “Cirque II” an eerie tale of two circus performers, which premiered to popular acclaim in Huntington Beach last summer.
