Moving Arts Dance is surviving a sudden relocation with the aplomb that has come to be expected. Given six weeks to relocate, the company has created a dance center with 2 studios, one of which is a black box theater, opened in time for their summer intensive training and to produce the world premiere of Giselle Act III with performances July 26 and 27.
Never heard of Act III of Giselle? No one has! Having produced Act II of Giselle last summer, Moving Arts Dance has taken up where Giselle left off. Artistic Director Anandha Ray describes Act III as "taking dance to the edges of haunting beauty, inventing the story of what became of the ghost of Giselle and the other Willis after that first fateful evening that Giselle arrived as an apparition in the haunted forest."
Directed by Ray, she has chosen to repeat one section of the music from Act II, but with added special effects, and to then use the original music of a local group called Judgement Day. The type of music Judgement Day creates is called "String Metal". They are classically trained musicians, playing original instrumental music they write for Violin, Cello and drums in a heavy metal style. The principal dancers in the production are played by Moving Arts Dance members Terrin McGee Kelly, Paris Wages and Coreen Danaher with soloist roles performed by advanced dancers of the summer intensive training.
Opening the show will be original dances choreographed the summer intensive students under Ray's direction, as well as audience favorites by Moving Arts Dance which are being prepared for their August 2nd and 3rd performances in Las Vegas.
